Childline is a free, confidential, 24 hour service, giving children and young people a voice when no one else is listening. Whatever problems or dangers they face, we give them somewhere to turn to for support when they need it. The demand for Childline at any normal time is incredibly high, as a child contacts us every 25 seconds.

For 35 years, Childline has provided children and young people with a safe, supportive and confidential space where they can get information and advice, talk and be listened to, feel valued and empowered and start to get the help they need to improve their wellbeing. 365 days of the year, Childline is here to help those young people find their voice, whatever their worry, online and on the phone. Childline is a lifeline to children who have nowhere else to turn, but we can currently only respond to two in every three children who need our help.

During the last year, children have been facing serious mental health problems, domestic abuse & sexual abuse within the home. During lockdown children have been hidden, stuck at home without their usual sources of support. We were asked to stay at home to stay safe but sadly home may not have been the safest place for some children.

At Childline we help children & young people have a voice to feel empowered because they are being listened to at their own pace, re-building their confidence and giving them the tools to make their own decisions and solutions for their concerns – giving them back control and helping them move on.

We help children & young people improve their mental health and reach their full potential.  Laura recently contacted our Belfast Childline Base and shared her experience –

“I am so grateful that you were there to listen without telling me I am lying, judging me or making me feel worse about myself and that is the amazing thing about these chats, they can save lives. Now I feel like we made a plan that I can try and I have a route of support. I couldn’t have asked for a better chat. Keep doing what you’re doing because it certainly could have potentially saved my life or saved me from something bad today. I’m so grateful Childline is there.”
